    Catalog Data Suppliers

Is there anyone out there using a third party supplier to provide their catalog information feeding it directly
to their MIVA database. I know there are providers out there, but the two I spoke to are pretty expensive.
I was hoping to find a lower cost solution. We are primarily interested in Photography Skus (Cameras, Lens,
    Flashes etc).

Any direction you folks could supply will be greatly appreciated.

    TIA

Automation is not cheap. I am not sure the prices you are getting with the services, however there are a number of entities on these forums that can set something like this up for you, we have done it a number of times. Will it be inexpensive, probably not.

...btw...those spy movies...where someone hacks into one database...cross references to another database...its no longer a spy movie. it's a totally improbable science fiction movie.

        Thanks for the reply Dan.
Is there a way to see who may have posted info on these companies?
I'm not even sure what this type of service is called.

We have done this for clients, many of the other module developers on these forums have as well, and Miva Merchant offers similar services to their enterprise/dedicated hosting clients. I don't think you are going to find many discussions on these forums about companies that offer such services because it is really on a case by case basis due to the extreme variations in data formats provided by sources and other factors.

I would be curious on the two services you talked previously that were pretty expensive. If they are not pushing data through Miva Merchant's API, there would be some big security and potential data corruption concerns. (maybe shoot me those via PM if you don't mind) I would also like to know pricing you were quoted with such services to get a feel of what is considered expensive.

Could you briefly explain the data security risk. I am assuming (at this point) that they would supply a spread sheet
and we would map the columns to MIVA data and just import it.

As far as companies I've spoken to, it's was a long time ago, so I don't recall the names. But I think the cost was
            about about $1,500/mo.

              Re: Catalog Data Suppliers

The security risk would come into play if it were automated connecting to the database directly. If it is not automated, and they are just giving you a re-mapped .csv for manual import via Miva Merchant admin, no concerns there. So I guess the question then is are you automating all of this, or is it a manual process once you have the import file?
