Have to click "Enable" in inventory variants screen?

I have figured out a way to import inventory variant quantity levels for the purpose of updating inventory with a csv file template. Not happy with the fact that variants need to keep being regenerated. But, I think I have it working without extra/duplicate variants created.

The issue, which may be a non-starter, is that after doing the import, the inventory variant isn't enabled. Meaning, I need to manually drill down to the EDIT Inventory variant popup screen, I need to select the "Enabled" link for the variant to be active.

Here's the magnitude: if I have 10 products with 10 each inv variants, I have to enable 100 of them, 10 at a time. Now, imagine that the clients store has over 1000 products.

Is there an option or procedure I may be missing?

    MSG EDIT:

A little more testing and I've found the "Enabled" status of the Inventory Variant quantity in the popup appears to be irrelevant. IOW, status of the inventory variant on the product page reflects the actual inventory level imported.

    Thanks,

    Scott

Can you clarify what your ultimate goal is? What do you mean by "variants need to keep being regenerated"

Are you trying to add new inventory variants to a product?

Surprisingly, I haven't been exposed to this yet.

      MM5.5 PR8 UPD12.
Using the Import/Export Variants (is this Legacy?) in the expanded Import Data Left Nav section.

That looks to be the only import module that can update Inventory Variant quantities. That is the goal. This step assumes all inventory variants have been generated and I just need to update the inventory.

When I load the csv into the import module and have the update only clicked and the "Delete Variants" unchecked, inventory gets updated, but to a duplicate set of inventory variants. The results never appear in the product display.

My solution is to leave the Delete Variants checkbox checked. That result is a clean set of Inventory Variants because all the old/current ones are removed. It works. I am wondering about the risk of side affects. If there are 1000 products with inv variants and a new id is generated for every inventory variant every time inventory is updated, these numbers will get very high. This itself may not be an issue. But, if other modules use the id field, by storing the id in their own table to grab data about the variant, they won't find the data any longer.

Maybe my question is, if there is a correct procedure, what is the correct procedure to update inventory variant quantities using an import method?

      Thanks.

If you're just updating inventory levels to existing variants you can just do it using a regular product import. Works the same way since they are just inactive products.

The file you worked on for me is just two columns.

        0001_CHERRY-BLOSSOM,5
        0001_CHRISTMAS,0
        0001_CHRISTMAS-STROL,0
        0001_CORTLAND-APPLE,0
        0001_COZY-CABIN,0
        0001_FIELDS-OF-HEATH,1

Using the import/export variants is the only way to get variants to generate via import but not needed to just update inventory levels.

          Thanks Mark.

Is the inventory level the current stock or an adjusted level? Please Ignore this question.

          Thanks again,

          Scott

OK, so this is resolved. I thought I had tried something like this, but apparently, I hadn't.

The thing you have to be careful of is if someone has an item in a basket while you update levels can get messed up.
