    Webstoreengineers.com

If I can save just one person from this company, I'll be satisfied. I've owned fineleather.com for over 3 years now. It was time for a redesign and an upgrade from miva 4.5 to 5.5. I was approached by several companies and decided on this relatively new company from India. It wasn't the price, they were probably only about 1K cheaper, but they told me that they had worked for Miva, and I believed it would go smoothly.

It was nothing but problems with communication and their basic understanding of Miva. They screwed up my meta tags, category descriptions, and paypal module. They changed my directory structure and my natural search traffic has fallen to half of what it was.

Thankfully I now found someone in the US to fix my site, and to design my new sites as well. I'm still going to have to pay to have the search engine stuff fixed, and I'm sure it's going to affect my holiday shopping season.

If anyone need any more information on this fiasco, please feel free to contact me.

I have no experience with these individuals but I have direct experience with others that have hired India based developers and the results were unprofessional and poorly performing web sites, sites I would never use my credit card on. I guess you get what you pay for when you hire someone that works for $3000 a year. One red flag one owner should have seen was when they said they had alot of Miva experience yet spelled Miva with an E on their website (Meva).

I wonder if this is in relation to the India people cold calling 'from Miva Support' on the boards that Rick was talking about a few weeks ago - "WSE is a vision of two MIVA Engineers which has grown to cater the needs of the business around the world."?

We almost went with a guy from this customer who said his name was Rusty. He tried to avoid any phone calls and worked hard to dodge the question "where are you located". I am glad we decided try someone else.

I believe Miva needs to look closer into who is chosen as a "partner"

              Re: Webstoreengineers.com

Webstoreengineers is NOT A PARTNER, we refused their application. That doesn't stop people from misrepresenting themselves. When in doubt, post here or check the partner section of our site.

If people consistently get complaints or if we don't trust them to begin with (such as Webstoreengineers) we DO NOT list them as a partner.
              Thanks,

                Good to know.

I had thought I saw them some sort of Partners list in the past but I must of been mistaken. Thank you for correcting me. My bad.

I'll also use this as an opportunity to pitch (not my company) but my philosophy. And the following holds true for almost any business/personal endeavor where you contract out a project.

Pick your contractor based on the following attributes, WEIGHTED IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER.

Ability to Communicate and UNDERSTAND YOUR needs (value of 0 to 10000)
Competence (value of 0 to 1000)
Professionalism (value of 0 to 100)
Overall Cost (value of 0 to 10)

(And by overall cost, I mean what the project will end up costing...hourly rates are completely, absolutely, and thoroughly irrelevant. And personally, anyone touting their hourly is either miss-informed or trying to hide something._

Rusty has been hounding me as well to upgrade our site as well. We're currently running:
                    Miva Merchant v4.20
                    Miva Engine v5.03

He keeps calling me because he says that Miva has announced "in all the news outlets" that they will no longer be supporting anything but 5.5. Due to this, all Miva 4 sites will no longer be (something I could not understand with his accent) compliant. "What this means is anytime now: it could be tomorrow, the next day, soon... you will no longer be able to accept any orders on your site. That's why they're waving their $3000 upgrade fee to 5 that they'd normally charge as sort of an apology for this and to motivate you to make the upgrade to 5." He kept going on about the urgency of doing this upgrade to 5.5 or else something bad could happen!

Geez, anything to make a sale, eh?

He was probably referring to this announcement.

You would be much better served if you moved your store to a host that can do all of this for you and do it correctly.

Yes you need to upgrade and learn more about pci dss compliance.

Yes you can find a better solution to help you get there. I went to this site and was in awe of the awesomeness of the way gallery items were displayed. (um yeah ok maybe not so much)
