    Re: Adding Product Images To Your Basket In PR8

    Ok, that works. Well, "works" is such a relative term!

    I had assumed having additional images would allow me to upload one "master" image and have the store resize that image to the sizes I need but it doesn't seem to work that way - it's fixing an entirely different problem (one that I don't have yet!)

    Thank you for the help anyway, I'm sure it will be useful to some, and possibly to me if I need these features in the future.

      Re: Adding Product Images To Your Basket In PR8

      OK, let's try this question again...

      Anyone (including me) that is using Miva Merchant 5.5 v8 has probably been using Miva long enough that they have already created thumbnails for all of their products. They are pulled and displayed on the category pages and on the search results pages.

      Why would someone want to create another set of images just for the basket page? Why not just use the existing thumbnails on the basket page too?

      Luray William's (RIP) Basket Wizard Pro module used to do this for Miva 4.X - no third set of images, just reuse the thumbnails that we all already have and show them on the basket page.

      Does anyone know the correct code/syntax to make this happen? I have tried 50 different ways and can't figure it out.

        Hi everyone,
        After following these steps, my basket page is displaying the path to the image instead of the actual image. I check through the steps carefully, but did I make an obvious mistake?
        thanks for any help-

          Re: Adding Product Images To Your Basket In PR8

          I got this working on my site, with just this piece of code on the basket page.

          <img src="&mvte:item:imagetypes:basket;" alt="" />

          I did not make different images, I just exported my product list, pasted the column of thumbnail images into the column for basket images, reimported the products, and done.

          It was really simple, and I think it is a fantastic improvement to our site. You see it working here if interested. soul-flower.com

            Okay - I didn't have as successful a time with the Image Type / Product Import. When I did that it added the basket image to the product as an additional image. So now the thumbnail shows up as one of the product's additional images instead of just a basket image...

              That's how it's designed as far as I know. The idea was you'd choose an image to show in your basket that's one of your additional image, I don't think we had considered someone would want an image they had never previously shown to be in the basket.
              Thanks,

                Very important detail. Glad I read this before I did the export/import process.

                So I am clear...

                If I use the thumbnail images already on my site (created over the last 12 years) for my basket images, as previously instructed, will they also show up as additional images on my product pages ???

                  Yes. The Image Machine will resize whatever image you'd like to use for your Basket page, so there's no reason to use a Thumbnail image over a Full Size or other image.

                    Rick - Thanks for the fast reply.

                    So the instructions you posted: "4) In the resulting file, move or copy the contents of the thumbnail fields to the image type fields" (assuming that most Miva users used a version prior to version 8 and created and uploaded thumbnails) should really be the main image, not the thumbnail image since it get resized automatically on the basket page?

                    Will this make the main image show up twice on the product page?

                        Ummm, that's just it. I don't want the image that have been "labeled" for the basket using the Image Type Basket - which how I understood I had to do this - to show up on my Product Page. Even though I've used the same thumbnail image that the product uses, by giving it an Image Type, that Image Type also shows up in the Custom Product Field Settings Custom Fields checkboxes as Image Type: Basket Thumbnail along with all those other Alternate Image - Image Types that I had to create to be able to update everything via a flat file. But when I go to import that flat file - it added the Image Type: Basket Thumbnail to the product's additional images. I'm hoping I just screwed something up...

                          FYI - I used the new Import Add/Update Products from CSV that can be found by clicking the Import Data link. Don't click the plus sign next to the link, click the link (the sneaky devils threw us a change-up).

                            Re: Adding Product Images To Your Basket In PR8

                            There are a couple of points that are important to understand when it comes to the new additional images feature:

                            1) The addtional images are dynamically re-sized by the software

                            There is no need to add large, medium, and small sizes of the same image as additional images. Once an image is uploaded for a product, there is a configurable dimensions tab for the Product Display Layout on PROD, the Basket Contents on BASK, and the Category Display Layout on CTGY.

                            This is why when converting from legacy thumbnail/full-sized images to the new additional images feature, you will most likely use the full-sized image data, and no longer need the thumbnail.

                            2) In order to exclude certain image types from being displayed, you must alter the oninitialize fucntion of the Image Machine. This code snippet can be placed in any script tag before the <mvt:item name="product_display_imagemachine" param="body" /> tag:

                            Code:
                            <script>
                            ImageMachine.prototype.oninitialize = function( image_data )
                            {
                            	var i;

                            	for( i = 0; i < image_data.length; i++ )
                            	{
                            		if( image_data[ i ].type_code == 'basket' ) image_data.splice( i, 1 );
                            		break;
                            	}

                            	this.Initialize( image_data );
                            }
                            </script>
                            The JavaScript above looks through all of the product's additional images and removes the image that has the type "basket" assigned to it.

                            Regards,

                              Just so I am clear. The main purpose of this is to resize your images so that you only upload one image and not several--is this right?

                              I am trying to find out how to access the information that you store when you go edit a product->click on attributes->upload an image for a certain attribute.

                              How do I get to that field and more importantly, how do I get to it in the basket page. I would like to display the actual image of the product they purchase. If they purchase a gold alarm, I want to show them the gold alarm. If they purchase a blue alarm, a different pic will show in the BASK. Is this possible?

                                Almost. It's purpose is that you only have to upload one size of each product image. You are able to upload as many images for a product as you like, such as front view, rear view, side view, etc.

                                I am trying to find out how to access the information that you store when you go edit a product->click on attributes->upload an image for a certain attribute.
                                On that attributes tab, when you create an attribute of type "Swatch - Drop-Down List" you will see an Image field for each of its options. If the attribute prompt was "Color", for instance, this is where you would upload a small image of each color to each option. These images will be displayed above the select attribute on PROD. Clicking these images will simply select the drop-down choice they represent. They will NOT swap out the main product images UNLESS you have done all of these steps:

                                1) The attribute is an inventory attribute
                                2) You have generated variants and set their inventory levels above zero
                                3) You have added additional images to the variants themselves (not the master product)

                                How do I get to that field and more importantly, how do I get to it in the basket page. I would like to display the actual image of the product they purchase. I've answered some of this above, but for clarity's sake, the basket images you have access to come from the VARIANT that was selected by the shopper. So if you've created inventory attributes, generated the variants, and have added unique images to the variants, the correct images will be available in the basket.
