Re: PR8 Swatch / Main Image swap

Deleting the main product's images shouldn't affect the images being displayed when attributes are selected (provided the appropriate variant has images). It's also a good idea to match image types so that the desired main image is loaded when the color changes (try clicking a different thumbnail then changing swatches, notice how it chooses the matching angle image instead of showing the default/topmost image).

You don't need to delete the main product's images - in fact, if your dropdowns have a "Select One" then you want to keep them or it won't look right before attributes are selected.

Patrick's steps look like they should get you the desired functionality.

Here's an example of the feature in action: http://knewbrough1.mivamerchantdev.c...en_shirt1.html

I'll send you a PM with some temp credentials so you can compare that product and variants against your project in the admin to look for any differences.

That's how I have it working for the bird diaper site, but it's not on the site I'm working on. Patrick is taking a peek at it for me - thanks!

Just checking - is this still the most efficient way to do this? What happens if the store is not tracking inventory?

        1. Log into the Miva Admin
        2. In the left hand menu find and click on 'Products'
        3. Find and click the 'edit' button for the product you want have the feature.
        4. Click the 'Attributes' tab.
        5. Click the ‘Add Attribute’ and set the attribute up… Example: Code: COLOR Prompt: Pick Color Type: Swatch – Drop-down List Check mark R for required and I for Inventory Click Update to save
        6. Add your options loading images that are 50x50 or smaller… Example Code: RED Prompt: Red Check mark D for Default if desired else the first option will be default.
        7. Repeat step 5-6 until all of the options have been added.
        8. Click the Inventory Tab and auto generate the variants… Example: I leave everything default.
        9. Click the Edit Inventory button and set the inventory levels… Example: I set everything to 1000 just make sure there are plenty and if inventory isn't a factor.
        10. Next we’ll need to add images to the variants so back to product click the 'Uncategorized' button and click edit on the first Inventory Variant product.
        11. Switch to the Additional Images tab and upload the Image that is to be swapped out with the main image.
        12. Click the arrow pointing to the right with out the line to go to the next inventory variant and upload the next image… repeat until complete

        Things to keep in mind:
        1. The 'swatch' image can not be larger than 50x50 by default but editing the CSS file can change that.
        2. The main product can not have additional images assigned to it, but the variant products can have multiple images assigned in additional images.
        3. If you are not seeing the swatches on the product, check the PROD pages Attribute Machine tab and make sure that Swatch Element: is set to ‘swatches’, without the quotes.

No, Version 9 introduced a new button that allows you to assign an image to all variants of a product. Under the attributes tab, select the color attribute (red for example) and you'll see a new button "Add Images To Option Part Products" This will allow you to add a single image and Miva will put it on each of the variant products that have that red option.

Which version of MM9? Is this something that has to be activated? Is there a screenshot of what I should be seeing? I'm not seeing anything like this in the store I'm in, but I'll go check my dev store.

Thanks. This should be an interesting one - it's MMUI. Also doesn't track inventory...

Not sure about mmui but you can just turn off the track out of stock and hide out of stock as far as I know. Really the use of "inventory" in this case is just to be able to attach variants to the main product for image swapping purposes.

It's been a "while" since I've done something like this, so I thought I'd give this a whirl. When the page first loads you can use the drop down to select and change the main image. But after that initial run, when I use the dropdown to try and change the main image, the only thing that changes is the first thumbnail image. Obviously, I have missed something.

My experience is that if you mess it up from the first time (wrong image/forgot type etc.) you'll have to go old school and modify each variant individually.
