BitPay: Can it be a payment option in Miva?

    Hello,

Our store is interested in accepting BitPay (which utilizes BitCoins). The API information is available through this link:
    https://bitpay.com/bitcoin-payment-gateway-api

There are numerous other shopping cart solutions utilizing BitPay as an option, unfortunately Miva is not one yet. Will this be available in the near future?

This would need to be a third party module, it's not something we'll be adding to the core anytime soon.

It's possible someone already wrote a module.

Hi -- yes, I write payment modules. Keith, you're welcome to drop me a line by email to discuss this in detail.

We have no interest in using a 3rd party module. We will look into the other shopping cart solutions.

Why not use a third party mod?

              1) It is a payment system.
              2) Future compatability (we have been forced to pay through the nose for "updates" on modules).

              We've learned our lesson.

If you're looking for it to be built in at no cost, then yes another platform will be your only choice for the foreseeable future.

A payment mod typically takes us about 400 hours to integrate and add to our PCI process and then another 50 hours a year or so to maintain.

While I'm personally fascinated by BitCoin (and follow it) it's still very far from something we'd add to the core as I'm only aware of 2 requests for support to date.
                Thanks,

There are "button" solutions that should work fine with merchant:
                  https://walletbit.com/businesstools

As for paying through the 'nose', sure...that can happen. However, I seem to recall that in business...nothing is really 'free'. Its just a matter of who you pay...and what you get.

Re: BitPay: Can it be a payment option in Miva?

You may not be aware of Miva and the way modules are utilized. Miva is a core stand-alone product. It is designed with the ability to customize as needed for any situation that may occur (such as the one you have presented with bit coins). Module developers are trained and authorized by Miva to develop modules to work with the core Miva product. These modules, once installed, become a integrated part of the Miva core.

Not everyone needs bit coin ability so Miva is not going to take the time and expense in developing something that only a few people will use. Instead, they concentrate on the more important things for the masses. Independent module developers will be able to spend the prioritized time in developing specialty items and requests such as yours to build Miva into something that will work for your business model. They will also be able to do this at less cost than it would be to Miva.

As a Miva store owner and partner, I have used modules for years to get special items or requests for myself as well as my customers. I can install or remove modules as needed/wanted without any adverse effect on the Miva core operations. It really is a wonderful arrangement because you will never be "stuck" with one product that doesn't quite fit your needs. There will always be someone out there that can customize your personal needs without having to also write the entire core of your cart. In the end, it is the most cost effective way to set up and run your online business.

I would seriously check to see what the bit coin payment module would end up costing you. You may find that Miva is one of the most versatile cart systems on the market as well as being one of the most cost effective ones.

                    Hope that helps.

I would pay a reasonable amount for a module to accept bitcoin($150 max)

I want something rather simple: at checkout I want to be able to display amount to be paid in bitcoin and for customer to pay that way.
Buttons work only after order has been placed and customer could have already decided to not pay at all because I would have to use something like a Purchase Order module to make it look like customer is paying by bitcoin.

I don't know enough to know how the various Bitcoin "Payment Gateways" work but I can say this. A good general rule of thumb is the farther a payment method varies from a traditional authorization/capture model of a payment gateway, the harder they are to integrate into an ecom platform without a lot of tradeoffs.
                            Thanks,

With that said however, I suspect that any of the mod writers around could do one that minimizes the tradeoffs and keep the price around $150 and likely sell at least a few dozen copies.
                              Thanks,
