Thoughts on the McAfee Secure or other service

We've had McAfee secure for years. No problems with the service and they have good customer support.

For $1200 a year do you think it is necessary or really boosts customer trust?

Miva asked if our credit card processor requires a monthly scan and the answer is no or they simply have never asked for one. I used to think PCI compliance required scanning but I believe Miva is working to make Merchant compliant on its own.

Well if you're paying $1200 per year you're also getting the seal, which is a different question.

For that you should run an A/B test and see if it is lifting sales. If the lift is worth more than $1100 a year (since it costs $100 with no seal), then keep it. Otherwise I would suggest downgrading to the PCI Scans only with no seal.

Regardless of compliance by us though, scanning is always necessary. We are looking at "bundling" scanning in with our hosting, but even then we'd have to charge for it. The hard costs on scanning don't go down that much at scale.

Also for the record as PCI scanning services go it's my favorite.

Rick: I'm getting an invalid link with this: http://www.mivamerchant.com/mcafeepciscan Do you have an updated link? Is Miva still recommending McAfee? Thanks, Larry

Thanks for pointing that out, we'll need to dig into it. For now the only link we have is this one: https://www.mcafeesecure.com/SignUp.sa?oc=4747

I had spoken with a rep at McAfee last month and he had mentioned that they were going to rework their affiliate accounts and wanted to charge about $300 for the service.

While I'm not shocked, it's a bummer they didn't reach out to us and discuss this at all. I should be seeing them in Orlando in 3 weeks though and hopefully will learn more.

Wasn't free McAfee PCI scans previously bundled in with Hostasarus / Miva Hosting Plans? Our login is no longer recognized.

It hasn't been in many years, McAfee sunset the old platform and terminated all of their partner contracts, so that old product no longer exists.

My $0.10. While 1100/yr isn't much to some businesses, the ones that need a "Seal" to increase consumer confidence might be better served investing that in things like a "professional" design, customer testimonials/reviews and ensuring that the site is in top shape (i.e, not having broken links, missing images, etc).

It's also worth noting the Seal was never bundled with Miva (Hostasaurus), just 1 year of free PCI Scanning.
