    Checkout with no payment

I have a client using Miva 5.5 with Authorize.net as his checkout method.

He sells registrations for classes that are held at his facility. He takes registrations both online and in his brick and mortar store. His plan for in-store registrations is to have his staff run them through Miva, just as the customers would if they registered online instead of in the store. This way his Miva inventory will always be accurate.

His issue is for in-store customers who want to pay with cash rather than a credit card. He wants his salespeople to be able to run those purchases through Miva as well, even though no actual charge will occur in Miva.

I figured he could install a Coupon Manager module and give his staff a coupon code to zero out the cost of the classes in Miva, since he's taking cash offline. But I can't figure out how to complete that sale, since the amount is $0.00, and since Authorize.net is expecting a credit card number.

I hope I've explained this clearly. Does anyone have any ideas on how he might do this?

If you are using the Emporium Plus coupon module, look at the install doc in the redeeming points section. There are edits related to the OPAY page in the event the order total is zero. That scenario happens often with points redemption so it gives them a way to complete the order. Don't worry about the other points redemption edits unless you are going to use that feature. Just use that part for the OPAY page and zero value orders.

The easiest way to accommodate this would be by using Manage Orders and having the staff manually enter in the new order. This will allow the inventory to be pulled from the store (as long as you are tracking inventory) and does not require the payment to authorized or captured. Ideally, you would also want to create a custom order field to help identify that the order was placed in the store and was paid with cash. If you are running on PR8 Update 9, you can do this easily with the new custom fields features. I have included a link to our Pro Tip video for the new custom fields module below:

Alternatively, if they wanted to go through checkout on the store and have the product price set to $0, you could also enable the "Skip Shipping/Payment Selection for Free Orders" in the Shipping Rules menu to bypass the Shipping/Payment Selection (OSEL) page altogether.

If working through the Store's public interface more effective for your client, you could also just add create an account for the Store Clerks, add them to a price group, and set they price discount to 100%.

You could also use our free Faux Orders module, which allows specific users to see a payment method that provides no charge. Since this was many intended for Testing checkout, you'd have to be careful not to check the "delete all Faux Orders" feature in the modules back-end.

Hey Bruce, if I did the Price Group idea, what happens at checkout when the price is $0.00. How would he complete the order where he's using Authorize.net? It's expecting a credit card.

See, nrodney's post. The part about setting merchant to bypass shipping/payment for 0 dollar orders.
