Backordering and Inventory Kits

If I have a kit with 5 items and one of the items is not in stock at the moment but is expected in a few weeks, is it possible to
a) mark a specific item in the kit as back ordered
b) Ship the rest
c) FInd the item that was back ordered and ship it when it comes back in stock?

Am I asking for too much here?
