    Second set of Related Products

Is it possible to clone/duplicate the Related Products to have a second Related Products to assign to a product? Store owner wants the ability to have one set of related items display on the left of the product and the second set display below it. The second set needs to be as easy to assign products as the first set. I had thought of custom fields, but the field would need to be able to have at least 3 product codes inserted into it. But then the person doing the adding would HAVE to know the product codes - that would present a problem.

    Thoughts?

Maybe loop through the array and if the index is odd output it on the left and if the index is even output it on the right.

You may also try suggested products by Sebenza. This is kind of a natural collection.

I guess the question here is, what's the difference between the related products on the left and the ones on the bottom. (Hint: If the response is "none" then the answer is you need to convince the client that this is a bad idea. Place has a purpose in usability.)

I had thought of something like this. I have to remember if the natural selection can be overridden. The module would be overkill but if they can pick the products to display then it will be a lot easier than trying to create a second related items.

Another question about the Sebenza Suggested Products module - can it be manually "seeded" to get it started until enough related purchases have been made? The store owner wants to display 3 "related" products for each product right away.

The link to the Documentation PDF is broken so I wasn't able to review it.

Honestly, I have to question why anyone would consider purchasing a Sebenza module at this point when it is clear that support is sketchy at best. Surely what your client wants to do could be accomplished using conditionals that test for pos in the related items list? Up to pos1=3, display on the left, after pos1=3, display on the bottom (or whatever the desired number of related products is in each spot)?

Re: Second set of Related Products

Leanne, I hear you loud and clear but this client will need and want total control over what products appear in which spot hence the reason I asked if the Related Products could be cloned. They need to be able to easily assign the products to each section and the order in which they appear. What you are suggesting might work if I can get the client to understand that products 1, 2 and 3 belong to the first set and 4, 5, and 6 to the second set. But add into the mix they do want it become dynamic based on what others are purchasing after the database is seeded.

Thinking out loud here - maybe I could set up the Toolkit Recommendation engine and let it start gathering data, then switch over to it if enough products get built up. Question - what's the correct way to get it to only display 3 products?

Yes you can add related products manually. BTW I usually don't have issues contacting Scott. Usually resetting a license key because his modules work so far without problems.
Leslie, I can send you the doc if necessary.

                      Off Topic (slightly) Lament:

Viking Coders had an awesome related products module for MM4.

It was never ported to MM5, though.

                      would have been nice.
