$50 per additional simultaneous Administrative User

Regarding the recent announcement by Russ Carroll, "Miva Merchant Admin Seats will cost $50 per additional simultaneous Administrative User per month.

You will not be charged for the number of users that you create, but you will be restricted to the number of simultaneous logins that can access the Miva Merchant back end based on the number of seats you've purchased."

Can you clarify how this will work? For instance, if we have 2 Admin logins but don't want to pay the extra $50 per month. Do we specify that choice somewhere/shomehow? How do we restrict it so we only have one admin user at time and won't be charged $50?

I asked Brennan already the same question and here his reply:

The way this is implemented, you can have as many admin user accounts. Both you and the client can have their own logins like you do now. However, if the client only has a single seat, if they are logged in, when you try and login you will see a “lockout” screen that will prevent you from logging in. This change only impacts simultaneous users logged into the Miva admin.

If you and Admin user (full miva access) from the lockout screen you will have the ability to see everyone who is currently logged in and even kick out another user to let yourself in.

You do not have to change any of your current admin accounts.

How will this charge be applied for those of us who have DEV sites?

Dev Site's will mirror the live site. So if you have one admin login on the live site, you'll have one on the dev site...though they can be used simultaneously by different login accounts.

So am I correct in thinking that if I open 2 tabs in my browser for Miva Admin that counts as 2 sessions?

That seems a bit daft. We do that all the time as it makes things much more productive.

          Can anyone clarify this please?

Re: $50 per additional simultaneous Administrative User

An unintended consequence of this is that retailers such as myself will just do lots more offline and then use bulk uploads.

I could easily need 10 licences if I carried on as usual. In fact one day we had 14 logged in. (Since there is only 8 of us I think most of that would be multiple tabbed browsing)

If faced with paying an ongoing extra 450$ a month I'm going to look at both new ways to reduce the number of times we log in or at other solutions.

If I used something like Storeman I'm sure we could save a lot. But I don't really want to do that........

I'm surprised there is not an offer to reduce the cost of these if bought in bulk eg 12 months for a pack of 10. etc etc.

I understand Miva want to get more from larger customers and there is a certain fairness in that as it's software is being used concurrently by multiple users, but there should be some volume discount available.

That's an interesting point, having more than one tab open. I hope this is not considered 2 or more admin accounts. I hope Brennan can clarify.

One more thing. It would really help if Miva would add a developer account so we can walk clients thru usage of Miva admin. New clients a we usually walk thru Miva over the phone. The new system wouldn't make this anymore possible.

Miva please look into this and don't make it harder for us who develop stores <pretty please>

Unfortunately it appears that this new charge was not thought trough as much as it should have been.

It is this type of nickle and dime charges that stop me from recommending products and to start looking for alternative solutions for myself.

I am strongly advocating a minimum two-seat verses the current pending one-seat logged session. I would like to see a store owner seat and developer seat. The new system is going to make being a developer more difficult than I think was realized.

The announcement is going out in waves, so it's possible you haven't gotten the email.

Yes, the type of hosting you're on doesn't impact this change,

There is an FAQ and so far based on this thread at least some misunderstanding of the mechanics.

We'll be answering questions and posting screenshots and the like to help clarify.
                        Thanks,

That is good to hear however this new policy still seems to be problematic for a lot of people. I would expect the default would be two simultaneous users.

If a one man operation also uses a product like StoneEdge, Synchro or ShipWorks they will have to remember to log out of Miva to do anything in those products or buy a second license.

I don't have a problem paying for something that helps me be more productive however for lack of a better term this feels like a "Money Grab" and unless I pay up I will be less productive.

When does this start for users? I'd also agree that not allowing two users for $49.95 or $79.95 per month sounds like you're having trouble paying the new rent.
