v9 release and the Non-Compliance Fee

Curious as to the release schedule of v9. With the latest target being in 4 weeks or so, that puts us right smack before/in the holiday season. I'd have to imagine most people wanting to hold off upgrading until the new year. However, with waiting, we stand to lose 30+ days before the NCF kicks in.

Hoping v9 is going to at least be a quick upgrade as a base upgrade (meaning the current store will work as it does under 5.5).

Rick said it will be a 90 day grace period.

Pamela is correct, it's 90 days. The only time it's 30 days is for a known security issue, which (knock on wood) we've never had to issue.

Correct....but what I'm saying is, because it's being released mid-November (that's when the 90 day clock starts).....I for one, in the stores we manage, won't be touching it until after the first of the year (can't risk the holiday season and a major upgrade). That means we just lost 30+ days of the 90 day grace period of development and test time.

This (ironically) from an upgrade standpoint should be far more minor than both PR6 to PR7 (which was the hardest) and also far more minor than PR7 to PR8.

          For what it's worth.

That is good to hear, as it will make the initial upgrade easier to do. From what I understand, just the upgrade itself should keep all current installed modules working as is?

I'm imagining though, the transition from discount modules to the built in modules (coupons, discounts, sales)....will require a bit of code changes to reflect on the PROD, CTGY, and BASK pages.

That's true, but that's on your own timeline.

Correct....as long as the default upgrade doesn't force any of the new features.

No, it doesn't force on anything.

While the new features will be waiting for you to implement - getting your brain retrained to the new admin may take a few "minutes". Years of staring at the MM5.5 admin will take a bit time to get past, but much like that move from an MM4 admin, once you get used to it you'll almost forget your way around older admins.

NCF's are not version specific if you will. PCI has a specific requirement that we're enforcing via a penalty.

All production software must be updated within 90 days of general release or 30 days of a specifically marked security update.

So since you're on 4.x, you're subject to the NCF.

If you were to upgrade to PR8 U12 today, then the NCF would stop until 90 days after 9.0.0 comes out. Then if you haven't updated by then, you'd get the fee again.

The good news for you is that once you're on 5.0 or higher, updates become "simple". Going from PR8 U12 to 9.0.0 is a click of a button without a site rebuild.

The "painful" upgrade is from 4.x to 5.0+
                            Thanks,
