Viking Coders UPS Custom using UPS Developer Kit APIs?

We have been using Viking Coder's UPS Custom module for years without fail but just received a Tech Alert from UPS advising that we are "currently using UPS Developer Kit APIs in the Customer Integration Environment, which is not intended to perform as the UPS production environment. To avoid slow response time or planned outages, please migrate to the UPS production environment by November 25, 2014".

We talked to a UPS tech guy and figured there wasn't a problem but in doing some research we discovered that Viking has always used the development API to skirt some of the issues with showing rates for other carriers side by side with UPS rates.

Are we about to face a situation where this module will no longer work or what?

Anybody with any information would be much appreciated!

We received this exact same email from UPS. We are also using the Viking Coders module. I contacted Miva support about it and Wayne Smith answered with this:

"Make sure UPS module(s) is configured for the production URL and your UPS account has been moved to the production server. You are more than likely already on the production server. I believe emails were sent to any account that had used the testing API in the past 12 months."

I'm not sure how to do what he is saying. How do we configure the modules to use the "production URL"? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Eric

On advice from the forum, we recently changed from using URL https://www.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate which I think is the test URL, to https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate which I think is the production URL?

Is that what we're talking about here?

        Eric,

The next reply after yours (from 'Larry') references the change to the 'production URL' which we did back in September but I don't know if that is what the UPS email is talking about. We received the email 2 months after changing the URL. That change plus an upgrade to the Miva engine was needed to fix the SSL v3 discontinuance and it solved that problem.

By the way, to change the URL you go to the main configuration page for the UPS Custom module, it can be changed at the bottom of that page.

Our original post was whether there is something else going to break due to what the UPS email referenced.

Does anyone know more specifically about the issue here, NOT about just changing the URL? Our thoughts are the emails from UPS are more specifically referencing the code itself, as in how their development/production APIs are used.

        Anyone??

I Googled this email and found this "I contacted the UPS Developer Kit Tech Support (800-247-9035) and they told me this email was sent to anyone who used the Test API endpoint in the past 12 months." at: http://magento.stackexchange.com/que...ent-cie-notice

          Maybe that explains the email?

Re: Viking Coders UPS Custom using UPS Developer Kit APIs?

I, too, am very interested in the answer to this question as we received the same email. We have the Viking Coders UPS Custom Integration module. Viking Coders doesn't seem to have an easily accessible support system as their "Create a Ticket" and "Contact Us" options lead to an "Endeavor3" login interface with which I'm not familiar.

Does anyone know for certain what we're supposed to do as a result of this email?

I believe my module is on the "test URL" according to previous posts in this thread, so it seems perhaps at least that needs changed. Is this URL documented anywhere? Also, how do I know if my UPS account has been moved to the production server? We configured the Viking module about four years ago and I don't recall touching the configuration since.

When I log into my UPS account and look at the details of my Access Key, I see that some items are set up as "production" and others are set up as "test". Does this have any bearing on what I need to do?

Thanks in advance to anyone with any authoritative information about this.

Re: Viking Coders UPS Custom using UPS Developer Kit APIs?

We just contacted eMedia Sales about this. According to them we have to upgrade in order for it to continue working.

Here are the fees to do so:

There is $119 one time setup fee and you have a monthly option based on the following three tiers.

              $19.99/mo - standard monthly price.
$17.99/mo - if you prepay for one full year.
$14.99/mo - if you prepay for two full years.

Will just changing the URL to UPS CGI Gateway: to https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate work?

Googled "ups tech alert please migrate" and found this regarding the same email sent to Ubercart: http://www.covenantdesign.com/blog/u...igration-email

The "solution" at that link is:
                "Solution:
We checked with UPS and they confirmed that as long as we were using the correct production URLs for uc_ups module we are fine.
UPS said that the correct Web Service APIs is:
                [APIName]”>https://onlinetools.ups.com/webservices/[APIName]
UPS also said that for XML APIs for our application the correct production URL is:
                [APIName]”>https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/[APIName]"

I think we are OK using https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate on our sites. Fingers crossed!

I just changed our URL to this one. I sure hope all our stores don't go down on the 25th! That would be the worst possible scenario considering Black Friday coming shortly thereafter.

I also just changed the URL to https://onlinetools.ups.com/ups.app/xml/Rate in the module settings. I did a few test orders and the shipping charges came out the same. Hope it continues to work through Nov. 25.
