    MM9 Seats/Close Session

I would really like to see the insufficient login display/functionality transition to a login request model. Instead of simply booting someone out of the admin without warning, change the "Close Session" button to a "Request Login" button. When clicked the Current User(s) would be presented with a notification in the admin stating someone is requesting login access. (could take this a step further and give the option to send email notifications on these actions)

I can say this has already eaten up a bunch of our time in the short period Miva Merchant 9 has been in the wild. While not 100%, the above might reduce some of the pain and suffering of Miva Merchant integrators/consultants.

Good suggestion Dan. Imagine someone getting booted during something important without warning. The idea of your time to be on is at 4 but make sure your off at 4:30 is kinda rough around the edges.

      Re: MM9 Seats/Close Session

I just noticed that you cannot have two separate browsers (example, one Google, one Internet Explorer) from the same computer in one seat.

I was listing a product on Internet Explorer (I know, my bad) and it locked up, so I started Google on the same computer and that ran into the seat restriction. I was trying to not forcibly shut down Internet Explorer because I was uncertain as to whether it had successfully performed the product changes I was trying to make, so I wanted to use another browser to see if the new settings had taken hold.

The seat is not based on IP address, obviously, but on cookie settings within the individual browser, I suppose?

Yes, it's browser session based. There is no practical way to just identify the "Computer."

Bruce is correct, if there was, we'd implement it. But as of today, there's no such thing as a universal computer cookie.

            Re: MM9 Seats/Close Session

To circle back around on this one, every Miva Merchant 9 interaction we had today, except one, required that we reach out to the client to have them log out and/or try to schedule a time we could gain access to perform their requested tasks. (the exception was a dev store) Full transparency, we implemented the internal policy not to close other admin sessions without permission, simply too risky from where we sit.

Curious if other store integrators/consultants are making any policy and procedure changes with all of this? Rick, Design Services doing anything different to try and better manage these processes? What is their stance if they go to login to a client admin and there aren't enough seats?

Design Club has the same limitations as any third party dev.

We expect to fix the issue you mention before the Conference. We do need (and appreciate) some real world data on this, so we fix it once and forget it.

Just to reiterate, our plan is for Certified Developers to have the ability for their accounts to be able to bypass the seat requirement all together.
              Thanks,

Understand, you and I have discussed that Design Club falls under the same restrictions. I am more asking if they have made any procedure changes to better manage things. Is there a point where Design Club will start clocking time due to the additional communication/scheduling requirements for clients that do not purchase an additional seat for integrators/consultants?

Anything we can provide. We are definitely monitoring our MM9 interactions in terms of seats.

Last I had heard this was just for certified module/app developers. Has this changed to include store integrators/consultants?

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself on promises, but our plan is to solve this problem for both groups.

Is the IP address to broad of a brush to use? I noticed my IP address is posted with the message.

Yes an IP is to broad, for example everyone in our office has the same IP.

So I'm working in a store that has opted to purchase additional seats. I've given something to do, I go to log in and all the seats are taken. I click the Try Again button. I now find myself feeling like I'm waiting in line for stall in the women's bathroom at a sporting event.

Not sure I have an analogy for how I felt when someone booted me out right as I was trying to save an update to some coding changes...

I think that having an ability to message the person you're trying to boot is going to be essential.

"I need to get into the admin right now to start my shift."
"Hold on, I need 5 more minutes to make sure this template code actually works. Kick me out if I'm not done by then."
