    More Coupon Questions

    In M5.5 we use Emporium's Follow On Contact module in combination with Emporium's Coupon module. We have it set up so that 21 days after a customer places an order, they receive an email offering a unique coupon code for a discount on a new order placed within 3 days. Our customers love them, and we get lots of follow up orders.

    In our M9 testing so far, it appears we can continue to do this with the Emporium modules.

    But it appears that having those modules active prevents our being able to use the new coupon options in M9. When we go to the Marketing section, the only tab that shows is Price Groups. No Coupons, no Upsale, no Settings. Or do we need to do something to activate the M9 coupon options?

    We'd like to use some of the new coupon options, but hate to give up what we've got now. (We really like those people who order from us every 21 days.)

    Those modules should have no impact on Version 9's coupons. When you go to Marketing, you should see other tabs for Coupons.

    If you don't there is a chance there is something wrong with your update and you should email our support team. Here is a tutorial on how to setup a coupon so you can see the screens you should be seeing:

      If I have another coupon module installed (Sebenza) how do I remove that code from OSEL and incorporate the MM9 code needed to collect the coupon at check out?

        Re: More Coupon Questions

        Typically this is something your developer would need to do, but at a high level you need to:

        1. On OSEL look for this item and remove it:

        <mvt:item name="ultimatecoupons" param="redeem" />

        2. In its place replace it with the default code for Miva's Coupon Box:

        Code:
        <form method="post" action="&mvte:global:sessionurl;Screen=&mvte:global:Screen;">
            <input type="hidden" name="Action" value="ACPN" />
            <input type="hidden" name="Store_Code" value="&mvte:global:Store_Code;" />
            Coupon: <input type="text" name="Coupon_Code"> <mvt:item name="buttons" param="ApplyCoupon" />
        </form>
        You would then need to re-create all your coupons in Miva's Coupon system

          Re: More Coupon Questions

          I would add that there are additional template changes required throughout existing stores that need to be made to fully support the new MM9 Marketing and other features: http://www.miva.com/version9-template-changes (though this doc looks to be down at the moment)

          How these changes are applied also depends heavily on previous customizations and module usage on the given store.

              Thanks for your response, Brennan.

              I started this thread while watching Monday Night Football, using Firefox on our new Windows 8 laptop. Looking at our development company today, also on Firefox, on our Windows 7 computers, we have all the appropriate tabs. We can place them side by side, log on to the laptop, go to Marketing & see no tabs. Log off the laptop, log on the W7 PC & see all the tabs.

              So we just won't watch MNF again. Easy solution.

              So are you saying M9 will play well with the Emporium modules? Will we be able to continue using Emporium while also using the M9 coupon options?

                What ever best of both worlds means to you in this matter, you can have that. Your Emporium Plus modules shouldn't be affected by the new features we've cooked into the core software. But I would imagine you'd want to make a clear cut decision on whether you want the Emporium Plus module or Miva to handle coupons, otherwise you'd have to display two "Enter Coupon" fields on your store pages, which would be confusing.

                  Re: More Coupon Questions

                  Thanks for the clarification, Zeph. We agree that 2 enter coupon code fields won't work.

                  On the other hand, when we do a special promotional coupon today, we shut off the automatic follow-on coupons so no customer has two coupon codes active at the same time (we only allow one coupon per order). We could continue to do that by changing which coupon code field was visible in checkout, Not the best solution, but maybe workable.

                  We could create the follow-on coupons manually in M9, but the work load would be too much.

                  We can't be the only Emporium user facing a choice between using Bill W's follow-on coupon module and the new M9 options. Seems like it would make sense for Miva to make that connection possible. That would add to the flexibility of the Marketing aspects of M9.

                    Re: More Coupon Questions

                    Is the main question here if the new Miva Merchant 9 coupon functionality offers dynamic coupon generation?

                      Re: More Coupon Questions

                      What Emporium's module does is automatically generate a unique coupon code a certain number of days (user option) after a customer enters an order. It automatically sends that code to the customer in an email. We set the coupon to expire in four days, and allow it to be used four times (to encourage sharing).

                      Our customers like the coupons and the personal touch.

                      We want to continue to have that option, but apparently will need a work around in order to pull it off. Our suggestion is for Miva to offer that functionality in a future release.

                        Re: More Coupon Questions

                        Right, the Emporium Plus Follow-On Contact module is responsible for sending out the email, and a template item from the Emporium Plus Coupon Redemption module handles the coupon auto-generation process. I just wanted to make sure I understood the question/issue at hand.

                          That's a good point, we'll look at adding that.

                            Re: More Coupon Questions

                            So with that Minnie, I would advise you to continue using the Emporium Plus Coupon Redemption module until Miva Merchant adds auto-generation capabilities.

                            When Miva states that modules have been tested with Miva Merchant 9, they mean they should install/function normally on their own. It does not mean that 3rd party module provided features are compatible with Miva Merchant 9's own features. There are going to be a number of areas where Miva Merchant 9 users will need to continue to use previous 3rd party modules to fit their specific needs, this being one of those cases.

                              Thanks, Dan. We're going experiment in our development company using both (though one at a time). Hopefully, Miva will at some point add the Emporium capabilities.
