    Another Stupid Question

    OK guys,

I must be brain dead or its really late, can someone tell me how when select Catalog, they categories, then I click on products. How do I sort by assigned, unassigned, and all to show only the products assigned to that category. Also, if I can ever get to the assigned part, how do you change the sort order, so products are placed in a different position of the public side.

    Thanks

In the admin go into: Catalog > Categories Tab

Drill into the "Edit Category" screen for the Category you want to work with, and click into the Products tab on this page. Click on the "Show Records" button (looks like an eye) and make sure it is set to "Show Assigned." If this is set it will list only products that are assigned to this category (only the products with blue switches in their "assigned" column.) This will also reveal a button on top called "Edit Display Order" (which looks like an triangle pointing up and a triangle pointing down.) Click that button and a ordering column will appear to the left of the product list. Order them changing their numeric values. Note that if you change a product to be "1" and hit Return, it will be the new first product, and the old first product gets bumped to # 2, etc.sort-prods-in-cats2.jpg

      Re: Another Stupid Question

I've had an issue using this method. I've got a couple hundred products in the category. I want to rearrange only the active. So I click the Show Record, find the product I want to change - for example it's number 567. I change it to number 123 and click update. the product does not move where I expected it to go. I tried this 3 or 4 times until I thought to take a look at all the products. Sure enough, the product I had been trying to move to 123 was indeed 123 when I viewed all the products, but it was not when I viewed just the active.

        Hey Leslie,
So apparently there is a known bug with sorting active products in a category that will be addressed in the next patch.

The bug happens when you are attempting to sort products in this method and you have "Show Products" (button to left of "Show Records"... it looks like a bulleted list) set to "Active." If you change it to "All" you should be able to sort the products in your category properly.

Let me know if the sorting of products still doesn't behave the way you expect when you have these settings configured this way.

Thanks everyone for the help, truly its appreciated.

So, just to be clear, this is the MIVA 9 that is suppose to do thing in fewer clicks and make it easier ...........

Maybe MIVA can ad an option later to put text under each button (label the functions of each of these symbols)

          Thanks again,

            Yes Kevin,

I would confidently stand behind the statement that "This is the Miva Merchant 9 that can do things in fewer clicks and makes it easier." The steps I detailed for accomplishing this wasn't the fastest way to arrive to that location. It was the most detailed hand-held way to do it. If its speed you're after, you could just press ALT+\ to focus on the Global Search bar, search for the category name and jump straight into the Products List for that category. On top of that you can book mark that page so you can easily jump straight to it from bookmarks if doing a search takes too long for you.

As for the Labels, all buttons have title tags if you hover over them, if you want to know what their officially names are.

              Hello Zeph,

Hope your well. LOL, I thought ALT+/ was a key stroke and not a click...... I am away of the hover thanks, I would simply rather move my eyes first to determine where to place my mouse for the next click. Having some text under those new icons, would make it easier to learn the new layout and what those icons mean. After 12 years using miva, believe me miva 9 is a big change.

Anyway, No more sarcasm or negative comments from me.

Seriously, I do thank you for the help.

                Re: Another Stupid Question

I guess it would be considered a zero-click process, which is the least clicks possible. Alternatively, you could always depress the "\" key with the base of your mouse if you're a 1-click-minimun purist. :p
