Toolkit function generated links and SEO MM9

For the toolkit functions, such as subcats, can those links be edited somehow to match the SEO links set in the Miva admin, without using TKSL? Or for just the toolkit functions is there an htaccess fix... or does the Miva generated section of the htaccess file already fix that? I am using MM9 bootstrap...not a readythemes.

    Example:

I am coming out with links like this for subcats: http://www.domain-name.com/mm5/merch...y_Code=catcode

When I want them to look like: http://www.domain-name.com/category/catcode.html

I hope this is understandable....I'm a little confused on all of this. Maybe someone can set me straight.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

    Hey Jamie,

This is what I'm using for my subcat links:

    Code:
    http://&mvt:global:domain:name;/category/&mvta:sub_category:code;.html

FYI: I know its hearsay...but SEO is pretty insignificant at the category level. At least with google, all they really care about is the product page.

        Hi Bruce,

Would that possibly be looked at as duplicate content though? My cat tree has the links have the short links and the subcat function the long links.

When all is said and done, it doesn't really matter what you're url's are. It matters what the rel="canonical" is and that it is a valid url for that page. This is what Google is going to index.

But this is just my opinion...

                Agreeing with Ron.

                It's about the canonical.

...and again, google don't really care about cat pages...so you've got that going for you. (but yea, if you have conical set, it doesn't matter)

Google does cares about category pages. We have a number of categories associated with individual brand names that place very well in the organics.

Or, just google "performance tires" to see something mainstream.

I only see search specific landing pages or home pages in the first 30 or so.

Wow. All three of my browsers saw category pages from Goodyear, Bridgestone, Cooper and Dunlop on the first page.

The word "category" was even in the link on a couple of them. Hmmmm . . . .

and you think that's from optimizing category pages?

No. I think it's from Google indexing category pages. So they must matter.

I never said they didn't index category pages. But my seo sources all say, that unless you need to build a 'landing page' (it generally might look like category page) that primarily google is looking at specific product pages. I'll bet all those "performance tire" sites also are first in line if you google a specific tire from the 'category'.
