    Searching for Product Images

Perhaps I was mistaken, but I thought you could search for any image within the graphics/0000001 directory on the server using the Search Product Images in the Edit Product > Images tab or when you click the Add Image(s) button on the same screen.

On a similar thought, is there any way to determine what images are assigned to which products? Selecting Full-sized Image and Thumbnail Image in the Show/Hide Columns menu?

    Thanks,
    Leslie

I think it only searches for images that were uploaded using the image machine.

On your second thought you can enable the full size image and image types columns on the batch edit screen and search there.

      Re: Searching for Product Images

      Hey Leslie,

Mark is correct. Searching of images from the Image Picker (Edit Product > Images > Add Image(s)) only searches pictures that have been uploaded AND registered with your store (aka, they may exist on the server, but if your store doesn't recognize that they exist in the sNN_Images, it will not search the file system for the existence of those images for security purposes).

As for your second inquiry, if your images are set as the thumbnail image or the full size image (which are legacy images now), you'll be able to search for them from the Catalog > Products batch list (provided those columns are visible), but otherwise no. There is currently no way to search which list of products contain a particular image. That's what you're referring to, correct? The ability to see which products contain (for example) image_a.jpg? Seems like a useful feature to have. I'll make a note of it in our "things we'd like to see added to MM9" list.

Thanks Ryan - just encountered that gotcha when trying to update one of the ReadyTheme Promo images - the image is on the server but not in the graphics/00000001 directory. I was using the "Add Image Already on Server by Path" method since the images I needed were already on the server. After entering the image path and clicking update I was greeted with this message:

Image filepaths must be local and relative to the Base Directory for Graphics
Very frustrating - I don't want to move all the images but it would seem this is going to be the only way to go

Where is the file on your server? As long as it is on the local machine and all the permissions for the images are set correctly, you should be able to add it (I just tested it) provided the path is RELATIVE to the base directory for graphics. So, if your base directory is /mm5/ and your image is one level up in another folder, your path should be "../image_folder/image_name.ext".

Thanks Ryan, I was lacking the two leading periods. Once I added those it was able to find the image.
