    Miva 9 Coupons

I'm in the middle of a redesign of my Miva 5 site to Miva 9. I'm attempting to use the Coupon module included in Miva 9. However, I can't find a way to combine a percentage off (price group) with Free Shipping in a coupon. I was able to do this in Miva 5 using Ultimate Coupon module. Is this possible on Miva 9? If not, back to Ultimate Coupon module.
    Thanks, Candy

Yep this is possible with Miva's Built in Coupon system. The nice part about it architecture is that a coupon can be associated with as many price groups (discounts) as you want. So you can create a single coupon and link it to a free shipping price group and also a 10% off price group. When the customer applies the coupon they will get both discounts.

Brennan - thanks! that works great now. Love that new feature...been waiting for a long time.

Next issue, is there a way that I can restrict the use of a coupon with certain products? The manufacturer will not allow us to discount their products so we need to restrict the coupons down. Any suggestions?
      Thanks, Candy

Yes. If you have a discount type of Percent Discount, after you create your price group, select it from the list and you will see a button show up for "Discounted Products". This will allow you to choose which products are eligible for the discount.

FWIW - Both the store owner and myself have followed the How to Create a Coupon tutorial. The tutorial doesn't cover restricting the coupon to specific products. But when the Price Group is selected for the Coupon, it has the ability to select Qualifying Products (which we both assumed would be how to limit the use of the coupon to specific products).

When we try to test the coupon with a qualifying product, we both get the message "Your basket is not eligible for the specified coupon."

So what are we doing wrong?

I think the disconnect may be that qualifying products and discounted products are not the same thing.

Qualifying products allow you to specify products that must be in the cart in order to get the discount. These are typically not the product you are giving the discount too. Think buy x get y type discounts. In order to use qualifying product you need to:

            1. Choose the qualifying products
            2. Make sure the price group has at least a qualifying quantity of 1

If you are just trying to limit which products can get the discount, you don't need qualifying products and instead you can just choose which products are editable to get the discount. This is don't by selecting the price group clicking on the discounted product button and assigning product here.

Since a discounted product must be in the cart in order to receive the discount, it make it so you don't need to also specify it as a qualifying product.

So color me a special kind of confused. Since this was set up as a Coupon Only with Basket Discount (and the store owner needs it to be a coupon), the only option that was available was to assign Qualifying Products in the Price Group. No Discounted Products button is available.

A basket discount will always apply the discount to the entire basket. There are no options to select products. You need to choose a Percent discount or a product discount. This will allow you to select individual products to be discounted.

So is the bottom line that the store owner cannot create coupons that can only be used for specific products or is it that the wrong selections have been made during the creation of these coupons.

FREE -- (free shipping for orders $50 or more)

                  EBAY15 -- $5 off $50 on first order only.

                  ORANGE -- $5 off $100 order

                  PURPLE -- 6% off $150 or more

                  GRAY34 -- 8% off $350 or more

                  SUN83 -- 10% off $500 or more

There are 325 items that do not qualify for any coupons.
Can she set which products can (or cannot) use these coupons? She's found that it's very easy to assign the products but is getting frustrated because she can't get the coupons to work.

The wrong selection has been made, but it's pretty easy to fix it up. It's only one setting off.

If you want to discount a specific product with a coupon, create a Price Group and configure the Eligibility to Coupon Only, and the Type to "Product Discount" (Not "Basket Discount") and then the other details as necessary. Then click save to go back to the marketing screen, click on your new price group, then click on the "Discounted Products" button and use that popup to indicate the eligible products (note: the "Discounted Products" button is not present when you select a "Basket Discount" price group, and you probably haven't seen this button yet), then create the coupon for it and assign it to the price group just like you did before.

We want a discount on the entire order except when someone orders a gift certificate. So is this process the best way to accomplish this = create a product discount price group and assign all products in the store to it except for the gift certificate? Then every time we add new products we have to go back in and also add them to each price group?

It would be nice if we could do exclusions instead of inclusions.

                        Re: Miva 9 Coupons

Continuing along with this... I still can't get this configured to work properly. I setup a price group for coupon only & product discount of 10%. I went in and assigned all products except the gift certificate under discounted products. The coupon also needs to be set to only allow 10% off when the order is $49.99 and above. I tried setting "Restrict to Qualifying Subtotal" to $49.99 and I tried "Restrict to Basket Subtotal" but neither work correctly.

If I use "Restrict to Qualifying Subtotal" - nothing works. With a gift certificate + any product, I get the error "Your basket is not eligible for the specified coupon."

If I use "Restrict to Basket Subtotal" then the customer is give 10% off any product, even those under $49.99 because the gift certificate pushes the basket total above the rule.

I think you may be mixing up qualifying products and discounted products. Qualifying products are items that must be in the cart to qualify for the discount. Most commonly used in a Buy X get Y type discount. It sounds like for your purposes you don't need any qualifying products. The three settings for "Restrict to Qualifying quantity/subtotal/weight" only operate on the qualifying items assigned, otherwise they are ignored.

You want all products assigned under discounted products, except the gift certificate. Then add the Basket subtotal restriction. This should give you what you're looking for.

I suspect you need to qualify the items the promotion applies to, when you use "Restrict to Qualifying Subtotal". So, if you only want to count specific items toward the $49.99 threshold (excluding gift certificates), then I think you'll need to create the list of items that do count toward that total by using the "Qualifying Products" button just like you did with the Discounted Products. Essentially in your scenario you'll be creating the same list twice. As you already suggested, it would be very convenient for your scenario if you could make it an exclusion list, rather than an inclusion list.

Thanks for the help. I double checked everything and that is how I have it setup. I'm not using Qualifying Products. So the problem remains when I use "Restrict to Basket Subtotal" and a customer has both a gift certificate in the cart plus another product that is less than the $49.99 restriction, it allows the discount. It's not excluding the gift certificate from the basket subtotal calculation even though the GC is not assigned as a discounted product.

Additional edit: Do "exclusions" at the bottom of the price group play in this at all? I'm not certain I understand or have those setup correctly.
