    Version 9 finding things

Maybe it's just me but I still find myself wondering where the heck to find certain things. That was always a problem with the old UI and seems to be partially solved with bookmarks, and maybe it's just the Emporium modules I use but I STILL find myself thinking some days ok, where the heck is that.

    Case in point..
1- Today wanted to modify the Emporium plus coupon code to exempt a certain product. Is is menu/utility/coupon utility? Nope not there. Is it under utilities/emporium plus tool kit? Nope. It's in menu/order fulfillment/ coupon redemption

2- Last week I wanted to tweak a setting on template data feed. Not run the thing, modify one of the fields. Is it under utilities/template data feed? Nope, that runs it, doesn't let you modify there. Under data management (seems logical, I'd be exporting stuff from the database)...nope. Under utilities/emporium plus tool kit (it was their module I'm thinking..)=NOPE. It's under utility settings, click the 3 dots, then template data feed.

Maybe I'm the dolt here and all these menus are customizable. But short of bookmarks, I can see where if someone doesn't use this stuff on a daily basis the learning curve gets pretty steep.

Also does anyone know if 'search custom fields' via Emporium plus module will ever be expanded to the main search on the top of the admin? Would be hugely helpful

    Re: Version 9 finding things

Have you tried using the search feature inside the admin?

Many Emporium modules had a somewhat 'odd' use of the left nav, main screen navigation controls where one link took you to different admin screens. In 9, there are not direct analogies. But, you can bring them up via search, book mark them, and there's your new nav.

Just about everything you do in the admin (at least more than once) should probably be a bookmarked.

I only wish Miva would take Developers/Interrogators serious when we say we need Exportable/Importable bookmarks.

Make sure you are also clicking the little arrows next to Catalog and Utilities (I suspect this is where your other module screens from emporium plus are living.)

Oh yeah, they are there. Just not in any sort of logical order. I think what Bruce wrote was accurate; bookmarks are the 9.0 workaround to bizarre logic in the old version (and continuing now) for Emporium modules. I can live with it, heck, some of those modules set me back $25 so ya know....

Bruce the Bookmarks Import/Export is on Ryan's list, I just don't know where as of today.

I always leave my keys in a basket by the garage door.

When I sleep, I leave my eyeglasses on the nightstand where I can easily find them in the dark.

My foot knows exactly where to find the brake pedal when the need is urgent.

              Each location is conveniently engrained.

              So, why change?

Why do software developers ALWAYS move your s... around?

It is a damned annoying habit.

Because frankly when selling (or even showing) 5.5 to new customers, it felt like I was selling green shag carpet in a modern home. Plus the new admin is faster once you get used to it.
                Thanks,

                    Re: Version 9 finding things

I've personally only had a little trouble finding things, but my tasks take me everywhere in the admin. I haven't really used the bookmarks much yet, but the search bar at the top is phenomenal. After spending a little time trying to navigate to the right place like mentioned above, I started just using the search bar to navigate around. I wish the search bar in the Orders tab would allow us to set what fields were searched as a default (the info we have always seems to require using the advanced search), or even an all-fields option, but what's already there isn't so bad once you count on having to use the advanced search the first time around.

And I might add a perspective that some don't have, but Rick alluded to. We hired a new office manager right when we upgraded, and she was able to start moving around the new (for her and us) admin her first day with minimal assistance. It was way easier for her to move around the admin than it was for any of us when we first started.

It will search whatever fields you have visible on the screen. Basically if you add the fields using the 3 vertical bars icon they will become searchable fields (hope that made sense)

This. A key indicator of usability.

Where have they hidden the upgrade option - as in upgrade from MM 9.0 to v9.003?

First check the settings at Domain Settings > Upgrade Settings to see how often the check is run. Then when an upgrade is available a coral colored button should appear in the very top nav bar next to Bookmarks.
