    Category Discount

Does MM9 marketing offer a way to create a basket discount for a particular category (as opposed to store-wide)? If it's there, we can't see it. We see how to set up a price group, but when we go to set qualifying products, we don't see a way to select all the products in a category.

Or do we still need to use the old EP % Off Subtotal by Category module?

You can do it with the native built in price groups.

In the popup dialog where you are assigning products, click the settings icon at the far right next to the search box.

From the drop down menu, choose advanced search. The last filter in advanced search will allow you to search for products in (or not in) a specific category. If you have multiple categories you want to search for you can manually type the category codes as a comma separated list.

Once you search for all products in a category you can use the select all command (crtl +a) to select all records and assign them to the price group.

One thing to keep in mind is as you add new products to that category, you will also need to manually add them to the price group. It does not do it automatically.

We weren't seeing how to get to the advanced search. That's better than falling back to the EP module. Thanks, Brennan.

We thought that we could offer a basket discount that applies only to the items in the basket from a particular category. That's what the EP module % Off Subtotal by Category module did.

But the M9 version applies to everything in the basket (which is what the documentation -- p 121 -- says it will do: "After you create the price group, you can select Qualifying Products, products that the customer must purchase to trigger the discount, but
the discount is applied to everything in the customer's basket.")

Is there a way to have the discount apply to only the qualifying items list?

I'm pretty sure you want to use the Discounted Products setting, not the Qualifying Products. The discount will only apply to those items.

The Discounted Products button wasn't offered, unless we somehow set it up wrong in the first place.

You will need to remember to assign new products that get added but you can use the advanced search to assign them by filtering to the all products in category.

I wonder how that could be. When you highlight one of your price groups, a few buttons will show up at the top. One is Qualifying Products, the other is Discounted Products.

For what it's worth, I've been able to accomplish the same kind of discount you want by using Volume Discount, then identifying the Discounted Products instead of Qualifying. It's really quite slick, glad it's a part of Miva.

                  Re: Category Discount

To add some clarity to this, If you choose a "Basket Discount" as the discount type it ONLY applies the discount to all products in the cart. You don't get the option to select which products get the discount. The Discounted Products button will not show up when you are using a Basket Discount since it will always apply to everything in the cart. That is how it was designed.

If you need product level restrictions you must choose one of the other discounts (Product Discount, Fixed Discount, % Discount). This will give you the option to only include certain products.

It is also worth noting that when you have a basket discount, the discount is displayed in the charges loop along side tax and shipping. This is how all the other discount modules displayed their discounts. However, if you have a product level discount it is NOT displayed in the charges loop and instead displayed at the product level. It appear under the line item in the basket.

This assumes you have all the page template changes needed for Version 9 implemented.
