mobile URL is different than desktop URL

    Hello forum:
I just noticed that our mobile site is using the long Miva URL for products while our desktop site is using a short URL. i.e. two different URL's for the same product. I think this has a negative impact on our SEO. Client thinks it is good for SEO. Would like to hear the Miva community comments on this.
    Thanks, Larry

I only worry about the <link rel="canonical" href="..." />. As long as these are the same, it doesn't matter what the actual url is.

But 2 different urls for the same page without the rel canonical tag is bad news.

    My 2¢...

Re: mobile URL is different than desktop URL

      Hi Ron:
Thanks for the reply. This <link rel="canonical is new to me. Not sure how to apply it to our situation. This is an example of two different URL's for the same product. The first from our desktop site, the second from our mobile site:
      http://www.rvparksupplies.com/p/PICNICTABLE6PINE1625ua/
      and
      http://www.rvparksupplies.com/mm5/me...rvparksupplies

How would I use the canonical link in this case?
      Thanks, Larry

Re: mobile URL is different than desktop URL

Solution: Added a canonical link to our mobile sites: SFNT, CTGY, and PROD pages that is identical to the canonical used in the desktop version of the site. If I understand Ron's suggestion this should fix the problem?
        Cheers, Larry

Re: mobile URL is different than desktop URL

          Hey Guys,

It looks like your already using the canonical on the desktop version: <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.rvparksupplies.com/p/PICNICTABLE6PINE1625UA/" />

As Larry stated, just make sure that your mobile templates are using the same coding to display it as your desktop templates. Maybe it's already there, but I didn't check the mobile version of your site.

Read more about it here: https://support.google.com/webmaster...r/139066?hl=en

            Hi Ron:
Thanks for the canonical solution for our mobile site's URL.
