    Auto emails

I use followon email module but I'm not convinced I am using it to its fullest extent.

If you use Amazon you know they auto generate a ton of emails based on your behavior on the site. Sometimes they can be annoying but often they're not.

Right now, I have a few different followon emails
1- If they buy product X, they get a followon email Y days later reminding customer we have a related item available
2- If they buy anything from us they get a followon email a certain number of days after.

Problem with both of these.... #1 is hard to scale. It is a manual process. #2 is pretty generic and bland. And arguably even annoying if you have repetitive buying customers.

So does anyone have any unique ideas in this regard using followon or the functions in off the shelf Miva? Inspire me? :)

We use MailChimp Automation for this.

It's not a built in Miva feature, but it's well worth the small dollar amount that it costs per month. They have tiered pricing where smaller size lists are free of charge.

How do you feed the list to Mailchimp? Automated or manual?

        I had same question

Followon module offers a certain level of automation.

I want my store to crank out emails based on on-site behavior.

If they look at X, but no conversion, then they receive reminder email Y
If shopping cart remains open but no conversion, then they receive a reminder email Z

Are you doing above-like scenarios with Mail Chimp app?

          Re: Auto emails

I wrote a follow-up module as a custom project for one of my clients. It sends emails that are specific to the item the customer bought: e.g. if they bought a 24-pack of some health-related product that they use 3 times a day, the follow-up email will go out 8 days later. Anyone who's interested in a solution that's tailored to their needs is welcome to drop me a line, and let's talk about it.

            Dutch,
In order to send the customer an email after looking at an item you would need to capture their email at some point in their visit.
There are many shopping cart abandonment services available but they can cost a pretty penny.
            Here are a few:
            http://www.listrak.com/digital-marke...ned-carts.aspx
            http://rejoiner.com/
            http://www.barilliance.com/

Additionally you can do a Google search for "cart abandonment services".

            Hope that helps!

              Re: Auto emails

Most abandonment services focus on shoppers that put something in the cart AND started the checkout process.

With Amazon, you're typically logged in when you shop, which is how they are able to send you all those emails. That, and tracking by cookies. Most small and micro business sites don't see that type of activity. Unless you're offering some sort of incentive (even if it's just other site features) to shoppers to log in before shopping, the chances of being able to reach out PRE-basket add and/or checkout are low. This is why it's so important to focus on conversions in every aspect of design and content.
