Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

I just watched Miva's video for gift certificates. It appears I need to create a product for each gift certificate/card amount. Is this really the case or can I use attributes for the prices? I created an attribute and various prices for each option, but it doesn't work so far. Has anyone been able to use prices in attributes for Miva's built-in gift certificate feature?

You can use Attributes for prices (as long as you use Variants).

Re: Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

      Thanks, Rick.
I've created my attributes with prices. For the Amount prompt, I've checked Inventory.
Under the Inventory tab, I've checked Inventory (so product inventory is being tracked) and increased inventories.
Under the Attributes tab, I've generated variants.

      3 things:
      1. When the recipient receives the gift certificate, the amount isn't listed.
      2. There's no balance for the recipient, even though I've purchased a $10 gift certificate.
      3. Some shoppers want to have a gift certificate mailed to the recipient instead of emailed. I suppose what I should do is leave text field "Gift Recipient's Email Address" alone and add another one for Gift Recipient's Mailing Address, would you agree?

I wonder what else I've missed.

          Hey Cameron -

When you generate variants you must choose Sum of Parts (The second option) for the pricing for the Gift Certificate to be the correct variant/attribute amount.

Re: Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

Thanks, Brennan. I've done that. I was able to purchase a gift certificate and I see the amount in the email.

When the gift certificate won't quite cover the order, during checkout there's supposed to be a split option on the OPAY page. The "Pay Additional Balance With" drop-down menu is blank. What do you think the problem is there?

Also, some shoppers want to have a gift certificate mailed to the recipient instead of emailed. I suppose what I should do is leave text field "Gift Recipient's Email Address" alone and add a text area for Gift Recipient's Mailing Address, would you agree?

            Thanks!

Checkout the three steps at the bottom of this page:

              http://www.miva.com/mm9.3_template_changes.html

As for the address, yes that would work. It would then just be an attribute on the product.

Re: Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

Watched the video last week and would like clarification. It appears there is no gift certificate code redemption box during checkout, that the recipient MUST have or create an account, then use the code to convert it to a customer credit for that account (BTW, love the customer credit feature). Is this the case or did the video leave out the option of using a redemption box during checkout?

There is a gift certificate redeem box during checkout, but it only shows up if you are logged in. But keep in mind all it does is convert the gift certificate to account credit. You never actually directly redeem a gift certificate on a order.

Re: Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

I got that all working. Thanks Brennan and Rick.
If someone pays with a check, the gift certificate shouldn't be sent to anyone until payment has been received.
I see I can disable "Generate a Gift Certificate When This Product is Purchased", but I don't see how to send the gift certificate later. Is this possible?
                    Thanks!

There is no restrictions by payment method. If you wanted to generate the certificate manually you would need to turn off the "Generate Gift Certificate .." and manually generate it after the order is placed.

Re: Miva's Gift Certificates with price attributes

I've unchecked "Generate a Gift Certificate When This Product is Purchased " but a gift certificate is being generated anyway, and the gift certificate code is being displayed on the Invoice page.

Also, since it generated a gift certificate, how do I send it to the recipient?

                        Thanks!

Ahh, I forgot there is a bug in the current version where in order for the Certificate not to be generated all the settings will need to be restored back to default for that tab.

                          http://extranet.miva.com/forums/show...620#post431620

You can manually re-trigger the email to be sent under Order Processing. Look up the order and go to Order Emails and select the Gift Certificate Email.

It'll be fixed in 9.0004, but it's easily worked around if you read the thread.
