    Clone an existing page

    Hi Miva,

I sure would love the ability to clone an existing page. Currently it's quite a tedious process to create a new page, write down all of the items assigned to the existing page (sometimes 25 or more), find and add those items to the new page, copy the page template, copy the page header, copy the page footer, copy one or more layouts (e.g. category product list layout), copy page content if the content item is assigned, etc.

A one-click 'Clone Page' button added to the administrative interface would be really nice! :-)

We agree, it's coming. No ETA though at this point.

      Re: Clone an existing page

Since modules often have their own content tabs and settings, it would be difficult (if not impossible) for a clone function to know what to copy and will likely never be able to copy every setting for every module.

However, it could easily copy the main page script and assign all the items. That would be a great start.

If it could also at least copy the "standard" tabs like page header, footer etc, so much the better.

IMHO the most important pages to be able to clone would likely be product and category templates.

      My 2 cents

This is a much needed feature I hope MIVA brings in the near future.
Our content writers do not know how to create pages from scratch, but they should be self sufficient if they can copy existing pages.

I'm going to dog pile on this too. Current I have to use the 2 screen method when creating a new page just to get all the items assigned. Very frustrating, very time consuming.

A tad late in answer, but if you have 'content' writers creating content, I don't think the best method is to have them create new pages. You need to create a CMS (Content Management System) either by re-purposing categories, using something like Scotssripts Pro Content or a blog if appropriate.

Understood and great recommendation. The Scots Blogger is good too. I agree that there is a need for a CMS within Miva Merchant.

Perhaps my need is more stopgap. My need is for a store that didn't using the MMUI to CSSUI conversation and has a lot of Additional Pages that need to be rebuilt.

Ah, yea...that sucks. Well, good task for a quiet sunday afternoon with a shot or two of fireball :)

BTW: CMS of course, is on the road map, but i'm guessing more than a year...and probably not has easy to use as scotsblogger module.

(I'm actually going to do a conversion from WordPress to Scotsblogger for a client. Once they saw how much easier it was to use and how much BETTER the integration looked...I mean WordPress is advantageous when one of its 100,000 features...but the client (as do 99% of our clients) don't use any of those features and just need a F'in blog.)
