Ready Themes - Under the hood differences?

I'm curious about the "under the hood" differences in the available ready themes, specifically performance, secondly ability to expand upon.

It appears that Suivant and Iron and Wool are basically the same with the exception of color schemes.

    1. Is this true? Or are there more under the hood differences?

They are also the latest available.

    2. Does this make them the most performance oriented?
They specifically mention optimized for speed in the featureset.

Base Ready Theme mentions Bootstrap Framework which if I remember correctly was the original offering from a couple of years ago.

    3. Does this make it the older, less performance oriented option?

Optics Ready Theme looks like it might actually be the best fit for our site.

    4. Is it any less performance oriented (or better coded) than the others?

    The features listed are different.

    5. Are there limitations to what features can be added to one that another has? Or do they all have the same basic featureset but the listings are just different?

    6. Or am I really offbase with my assumptions?

    7. Is there somewhere that offers a more detailed explanation that I'm missing?

Re: Ready Themes - Under the hood differences?

ReadyThemes is primarily about look and feel. The 'feature set' beyond how things look is basically the same between all Ready Themes. That includes the main difference between the themes which is menuing. While that may seem like a different feature, its in reality, just a different layout.

ReadyThemes are NOT really intended (IMO) as "platforms" to change from (with the possible exception of the Base Ready Theme). Rather they are 1) Pick Theme 2) Pick Colors and Images 3) Sell platforms. If you want to start with a responsive base and create your own design, use the Base Ready Theme. Otherwise, you'll be swimming upstream against the existing design templates of the Ready Themes.

This true. It is exactly the same framework with different images and a different theme.css file to change colors.

Yes, but some of the things you need to do is turn on caching via the .htaccess file

      3. Does this make it the older, less performance oriented option?

No. It is probably faster since it is less image heavy.

      4. Is it any less performance oriented (or better coded) than the others?

No, just a preference of style and which one would work best for your site.

      5. Are there limitations to what features can be added to one that another has? Or do they all have the same basic featureset but the listings are just different?

Any feature can be added to any theme. They are just starting points to build upon.

Thanks to both of you. A big help. I'm looking more at the base ready theme now.

          Brennan,

Can you give us novices the .htaccess instructions to be include in our .htaccess to turn on caching as you listed in item 2? We just converted 2 websites to Iron and Wool Readytheme.

          Thanks in advance
