    Exclude products from free shipping

I have free shipping set for orders over $100 going to the continental US. But certain products are too heavy and I want to exclude them from this free shipping option. How do I configure the shipping settings?
    Thanks!

    Hi,

You can easily limit shipping options permitted for specific products in Miva. Simply go to the product edit screen for that particular product, and in 'Shipping Rules' section, limit the shipping methods for that product. Exclude shipping methods that you do not want for that product and you should be good to go.

Is there a bulk way of doing that? I have like 200 products excluded from free shipping

Not from the admin I'm afraid. But you can export those products in a CSV file, change their limited shipping methods and then re-import that CSV file. Remember to include shipping fields in CSV while exporting products as they are not included by default. You can access all of import/export functions by going to 'Data Management' from the menu bar.

You can import/export shipping methods via regular product import/export.

How do you have your free shipping set up? ie. Did you create a new flat rate shipping method to handle it?

Yes, I have flat rate shipping set to 0.

How would I know the names of shipping methods for the LIMIT_SHIPPING_METHODS field import?

The way I did is was by doing an export of a product and clicking the limit shipping method checkbox / checking all the permitted shipping boxes on the product. This way in the export I got this comma separated list for my methods...

              flatrate:USPS Priority Mail,mvusps:FIRST CLASS,mvusps:iECONOMY,mvusps:PRIORITY,upsxml:01,up sxml:02,upsxml:03,upsxml:12

<mvt:vent>This is still so backwards, the only way to prevent a product from using a shipping method is to go in and assign shipping methods to all products. 15-20 products can use Media Mail, but another 200 cannot. Sure it can be done by a flat file, but it would be nice it it could be done like something similar to the Marketing configuration.</mvt:vent>

So you are saying that once you make a shipping option available, by default, all products will be allowed to use that shipping method unless you specifically state that they CAN'T use that shipping method?

Exactly!!! Store has a handful of products that are eligible for USPS Media Mail, but because it's a shipping method it is now available to hundreds of other products. My only option at this time is to go through and restrict that method from those hundreds of products. Yes, I can do it via a flat file BUT it's still backwards...
