    Multi-add products

We currently have a custom-built module that creates a size ordering grid, for example, a customer can order x number of smalls, x number of mediums, x number of xl, etc... This is done with special coding for the text field attribute. (custom module) that was created for us approx 5 years ago.

We want to know if the new Miva Multi-Add Product function/feature in Miva 9 could replace this module and reproduce the same results as our current custom module. Thoughts?

Yes the multi-add feature can be used for attributes like this. Think it as having individual products with their own quantity for each attribute.

Here are some more detailed resources on the Multi-Add, although it does not cover you specific use case:

Hi Brennan, Thanks for your reply.

We've taken a look at the sample code in the tutorial link you sent. We understand the basics of it, but we need more clear instructions on where to place the miscellaneous code that makes this feature work. We have a bit of Miva coding knowledge, but we are not experts by any means.

We need some more assistance in understanding how to think of it as having individual products with their own quantity for each attribute with regards to implementing this new functionality on our site.

Can you send me an example of what you are trying to re-create? You may need some developer assistance to get the functionality you need.

              Sky,

Note sure if they are still using it, but I believe that's running custom code we wrote for them. While its possible this could be done natively through the SMT system...it wouldn't be easy.

                Hi Bruce
Yes we are still using the size grid feature that you built for us. The challenge has been that the functionality does not work without bugs. When you left off there are somethings that we not working but it was 90% there and we needed to just get back to selling product at the time and need to accept the 10% error rate. So when we upgraded and noticed the new miva installed multi add feature we wondered if it would work for size grid. In our research other website builders ie volusion call the grid feature mulit-child. So we hoped this was the same case for Miva.

                    Re: Multi-add products

As I recall, the only issues had to do with sticking to the protocol and format of attributes. Meaning, with this type of setup you have to make sure attributes are treated and used the same throughout.

As for using built in features, again, I don't see a way to do this as the template coding would be quite an undertaking.

What you're trying to do is definitely possible, but it is a will take a few hours of coding to setup correctly using the Multi Product Add action.
