Affiliate Programs: Anyone Using One Successfully???

Anyone using an affiliate program successfully to increase sales and customers?

We've use the Viking Coders Affiliate Manager program with little success over the years, no fault of the Viking Coders module.

It is just that while there are a bazillion websites out there that use affiliate programs, it is hard to find anyone willing to link to join up with us.

When we do get affiliates, we MIGHT get significant traffic, but that traffic sure DOESN'T convert into sales :(

Anyway, would love to hear from anybody who is using any form of affiliate marketing successfully, no matter which particular format of affiliate programs they are running.

    Thanks in advance.

We use shareasale.com in conjunction with one of our business partners. They serve as the merchant and we market content we have produced for them as an affiliate.

Shareasale does seem to have a decent sized audience of affiliate marketers. Don't know how much luck you would have driving business through them, but it works well for us on the affiliate side of the transaction.

For what it's worth, we created our own affiliate program using the Miva functionality a few years ago for one of the largest community sites in our industry. They drove hardly any business our way, and we killed off the program. I've found that affiliate marketing is all about how hard the affiliate is willing to work to make the sale. Passive creation of affiliate links and one blog post won't turn into sales.

      Thanks so much.

It doesn't seem that there are a whole lot of people using affiliates as a merchant.

But the strange thing is that there are SO MANY sites out there that are affiliates for amazon.

I have clients using both Share A Sale and Commission Junction with pretty good success. Commission Junction has a larger network of affiliates and is more managed but they are more expensive and require a minimum amount of affiliate commissions each month or you pay the difference. There is also a minimum 6 month startup term. Share A Sale is cheaper and more do it yourself. I'd say start with Share A Sale and get your program up and running then decide whether you wan to graduate to a larger network after you see some results. The trick is being involved with your affiliates - providing them with graphics, promotions, coupon codes if possible, and possibly even a data feed. The more help you give them, the more they will produce. We even provide a larger commission or exclusive promotions to the "super affiliates" producing conversions each month.
