Taking Over Old Site, Thinking of Going With A Ready Theme

I have started working with a business owner who has a website built back in 2007 with Miva.. It has never been updated, is currently not responsive/mobile friendly/etc.. It is rather dated, and doesn't have much traction.. I have worked with MIVA in the past a little bit, but am in no way a Miva Expert. I see the app store has some ready themes available. Would anyone recommend updating the theme to a responsive one? I assume all products/images will remain, it would just require some personalization. Am I correct in my assumption? Thanks for the help!

    Hi Andrew,

Going the ReadyTheme route is a quick and easy way to freshen the site up. There are a couple of things to take into consideration. What version is this store currently at and is it MMUI? If the store is MM4, you'll be somewhat starting from scratch. Your Miva savvy host should be able to get most of the data out of the store for you. If the store is MM9, then you'll need to see if it's MMUI. If it is, have your Miva savvy host create an exact copy of the live store. Then download a copy of the MMUI to CSSUI Converter. It will get the store ready for you to upload one of the ReadyThemes. The ReadyTheme will just change the look & feel. It won't touch YOUR products. Some of the ReadyThemes will add categories and products, but those are easy to remove.

Re: Taking Over Old Site, Thinking of Going With A Ready Theme

To build on what Leslie stated, ReadyThemes (IMO) are a great way to get a decent, responsive presentation with minimal effort. However, if the site needs heavy modification, either in functionality or appearance, and if you have some responsive design experience, you might want to start with the Base ReadyTheme (AKA Bootstrap). This is because, with a ReadyTheme, a lot of the "bones" of the site's appearance and functionality is baked in. So, if you need to expand or change those elements, you'll be fighting the existing design/functionality of a ReadyTheme.

There is no right or wrong here, just what makes sense for you site. Above all, Miva Merchant is about choice.

Thanks For the Replies Leslie and Bruce,
I am currently running Miva 9.004, and I assume that is what you mean by MM4 or MM9. As far as MMUI, what would be the best way to know? Under user interface->Items? I show two frameworks, none of which have ever been applied.. Thanks!
