Cloning a new site from our existing MMUI site. Possible?

Hello Miva: We are considering creating a new site (new domain name) using a copy of our existing site. That site will include all code and all products from our existing site. We intend to keep our existing site as well. Now that MMUI is at end of life, will that be permitted.
    Thanks, Larry

Whether its permitted or not, that doesn't seem very smart to start a new site on a deprecated code base. Why not just set up the new site and use the mmui to cssui tool to migrate the new store to CSSUI...then you could copy THAT new store back to the other store running deprecated code.

I second the copy then convert using the MMUI to CSSUI approach.

Bruce & Leslie thanks for your replies.
We are creating a second site that is a subset of the first with our own branded products. First site will stay as is with the manufacturer's branded products.
Unlikely that second site will ever require any additional features so depreciated MMUI site is adequate. We have all of the features we require within MMUI.
Possibility that the conversion to CSSUI is fraught with potential issues. In my experience these kind of things usually are. We have a lot of custom code, can the MMUI to CSSUI handle that? Any reports on the success rate on the MMUI/CSSUI conversion?
Consequently as long as Hostasaurus will run our MMUI site we will be OK.

Another option is to clone our CSSUI site and then populate our database with our MMUI site's database. Maybe this is a better approach?
Just looking for ideas right now.

        Thanks again,
        Larry

Larry - on the (very) down side. The MMUI to CSSUI converter replaces the existing MMUI framework with the default CSSUI framework, so it will wipe out your custom coding. BUT, you will still have a copy of it within the store you would be cloning from.

The more I think about you situation, the more I'm thinking you might be better with a ground up rebuild and then import the rebranded products and categories. You have no need for the order information, which was one of the sticking points of going with a ground up rebuild.

I do strongly recommend that you start with CSSUI. MMUI updates are no longer going to be put out when new changes are released. I don't think MMUI is an available option in a new store. At least that's what I keep hearing.

even if i was building a new PC to use as a doorstop, I wouldn't be installing XP on it...just saying.
