    PayPal Fraud Order

I hope it's OK to post and ask some questions about possible PayPal fraudulent orders. I have been fortunate that I have very few fraudulent orders. They have always been easily recognizable in that the ship to is always different than the bill to including the name. They are always credit orders until now.

I now have an order that is highly suspicious but its a PayPal payment. The bill to address is some shipping forwarding company called Shipito located in California. The shipping address is a Residence Inn hotel in Fort Lauderdale. The shipping address is PayPal verified. The phone number on the PayPal account is an area code in Louisiana. He called me from a cell phone in Florida. I have free shipping on orders over $175 but he still selected express shipping for a total of $235 in shipping. The product total is $2350.

I initially ignored the order as I do all fraudulent orders. I never hear from any of them when I don't ship. In this case I got an email checking on the order. The email address is a gmail account. When I questioned the order and why shipping to a Residence Inn hotel the guy claims he was on vacation when his wife required surgery and he needs the order quickly so it can be packed up and ready for their trip home when his wife gets discharged. Today the guy called me and left a message about his order. All communication has been very well written (not full of grammar errors etc.) and he was easy to understand on the phone.

I called PayPal, they told me as long as I get a signature for the package I'm covered for this sale. This order just screams fraud on so many different levels. And I can't understand why he would have these particular products shipped to where he is vacationing and not just to his home. For the most part the order is embroidery thread and some embroidery design CDs. Lots of embroidery thread, to the tune of more than 300 spools of thread. Why would anyone want to pay express shipping on something they can't use until they were home?

I am hoping that someone who is more experienced with dealing with fraud orders and PayPal can weigh in on whether you would ship this order or not? I just feel that even though PayPal told me I'm covered as long as I get a signature that this would ultimately come back to bite me. I don't want to lose a nice sale but even worse would be to be all the $$ in product plus paying the shipping charges.

Thanks so much in advance for any input!

Wow yeah nearly every aspect of that order sounds fraudulent. One additional piece of data that might be helpful is the IP address of the ordering computer. If your site is hosted with us, email me the date/time of the order and domain name and I'll get that for you.

Yeah, too many red flags - why would his cell phone come up with a Florida Area Code is he is from Louisiana (unless maybe he used to live there and never got a new number?). Have you tried calling the phone number on the PayPal account? Why did he use a shipping forwarding company when he could have just shipped directly to the hotel?
