    Copying a store?

    Hi folks,

I have a client that's about to start on a fairly large custom project, so they want to set up a duplicate store for development and testing. Normally we would just contact Miva support for that; but this store is not hosted at Miva, so we need to do it ourselves. I'm not a server-config expert, so I'm somewhat in the dark here.

The client already has a second store in their "mall," which is unused; so that's where we'd like to put the dev store. Hopefully that will simplify the process, compared to setting up a subdomain. How hard is it to copy all the data, settings, module assignments, page templates, etc. from one store to another? -- and then apply the changes to the live store when we;re done?

Is there any documentation available on this sort of thing? Or if there's a free-lancer out there who has experience with this, and would like to come on board for this part of the project, please drop me a line.

    Thanks --

    Re: Copying a store?

I think the simple issue of dealing with the store code of the second store would negate how 'simple' it would be to do this. Better off adding a third level domain (dev.) to the original server. Even in the crappiest of environments, this isn't difficult. however, if the client is on a host who can't/won't make a dev site copy for minimum cost (~50/60) then the client needs a new host.

I don't see why the store code would be a problem, as long as the page templates are correctly written with an mvt: variable instead of the actual code. Am I missing something?

The problem would be in copying the store over. If it was a new domain, you *should* be able to copy the entire database, make minor changes in the "domain settings" table, link the new table to the new domain, and you're done.

With a 'store' you'd have to parse out the domain verses store tables, and do things like go through the products tables and change /00000001/ to /00000002/ for the graphics references. (though they might be fine initially as those old references do work, but any new product would be loaded into /*02/.

Like i said, never actually did either cause so much easier to let server geeks take care of things like that.
