USPS Server down?

At two sites I'm getting an error on OSEL that looks like the USPS server is down. Anyone else seeing the same type of thing?

Runtime error in /Merchant2/5.00/modules/shipping/mvusps.mvc @ [00000023:00000116]: modules/shipping/mvusps.mv: Line 1076: MvCALL: Unable to open URL 'http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll?API=RateV3&XML=%3CRateV3Re ...... : Connection Timed Out

Yeah looks like other stores are having the same problem. They must be down.

Yes, I'm not getting USPS rates at my site either. Order activity is busy today too.

You can always depend on the post office when you need them to be there... sigh...

USPS is down for us too. Seems like they do this to us every year at this time :( .

Same problem here. Started around 10am EST as far as I can tell. Still down as of 11:30am EST

I got this error too. I thought it was just my module going glitchy. Glad I checked here before bugging my hosting service.

Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid displaying the error message? For example, could I insert a Miva "if" statement to check to see whether a particular shipping method is working? The error message is crashing my whole shopping basket and checkout page. (I have shipping options displayed on both pages.)

I'm not sure if there's even a way to contact anyone at USPS that knows anything about their rate interface; I've never had any luck with that.

For some reason I never knew if anyone had contact with them besides maybe Miva.

If you switch to advance, you can look for the test in the original template...change the "Cannot determine shipping methods" message to something else....or just create your own message using the Flate Rate shipping module. Set it to 0.00 and Explain in the text of the Shipping method that you will determine shipping later...or just charge a flat rate for now.

I just sent an e-mail to [email protected] (the only address I could find when I set up my USPS account) though I don't know if that is the right address to use (or if they will reply).
